The 2nd EUROSUNMED Roadmap Workshop will be organized in conjunction with the 4th International Renewable and Sustainable Energy Conference (IRSEC'16) in Marrakech from 14 to 17 November 2016. The goal of this 2nd workshop is to conclude the discussion on the Roadmap, and more specifically: 1) to focus on the needs of the MPC solar industry, 2) to define Roadmap activities for technology transfer and deployment and 3) to identify most appropriate funding instruments.

IRSEC '16 is an international scientific conference that provides an excellent opportunity for discussion and knowledge exchange for researchers, policy-makers, engineers and other specialists with an interest in issues related to renewable energy. It is supposed to spark discussion within the academic community and to bridge the gap between practitioners and experts. The submission deadline for papers is 31 July 2016.The call covers a wide range of topics related to renewable energy technology, e.g. energy efficiency, green energy, climate change and sustainable energy systems. EUROSUNMED announces two more International Schools to be held in Morocco and Egypt in 2017! The events will be organised in May/June in form of 2-day academic seminars directed to Master, Phd and Post-Doc fellows within the field of renewable energy. They will be held in conjunction with so-called 'Industrial Workshops' where the EUROSUNMED Roadmap for long-standing cooperation between the project partners will be presented. The EUROSUNMED project will reach its end in August 2017 and this will be a good occasion to share the results with students and young researchers in Morocco and Egypt. The call for applications will be launched on the EUROSUNMED website by the end of January 2017.

3rd International School

The 3rd International School organized within the framwork of EUROSUNMED took place from 13 to 19 July 2016 in Erice (Sicily), Italy and 75 Master, PhD and Post-Doc fellows from all around the world attended the intensive 7-day-event. EUROSUNMED had sponsored the participation of 25 students directly involved in the project. Presentations by well-known researchers and scholars included topics such as global warming, conventional and sustainable technologies, solar energy conversion (PV and thermal), thermoelectric energy conversion, solar fuels, wind energy conversion, fuel cells, storage and vehicles. The School was a great opportunity for the participants learn from established experts and their peers - and to engage in networking activities. For more information, see here.

PhD thesis presented

Taoufik Slimani Tlemçani presented his thesis for the University Mohammed V of Rabat (UM5), Morocco, on 26 May 2016.The title of the thesis is: 'Experimental study of Cu2ZnSnS4 thin films prepared by electrodeposition and ultrasonic spray: Application to photovoltaic conversion'. The work was a result of collaboration between two EUROSUNMED project partners: UM5 and the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), France. Taoufik had been directly involved in the EUROSUNMED project and also completed an exchange & training programme of 8 weeks at CNRS in Strasbourg in 2014. Several other PhD projects are under way within the EUROSUNMED framework and they provide a good example of the outreach activities undertaken within the initiative. For more information, see here.

International Green Energy Conference

EUROSUNMED was represented at the ETRERA_2020 International Green Energy Conference InGEC & EmHyTec in Tunisia from 9 to 12 May 2016. Mr Tamer Abdel Rehim from Nile Valley Engineering, Egypt, presented the EUROSUNMED project and the current status of its Roadmap, i.e. actions for long-standing cooperation between the EU and MPC in the field of renewable energies. The overall goal of the event was to bring together actors working on research, innovation and policy for clean and sustainable energy in the Euro-Mediterranean region. With more than 100 participants, the event was an important opportunity to debate the current status on wind, solar and bio energy, smart grids and energy storage, energy policies and socio-economic aspects of RES power and on hydrogen production and storage, fuel cell and hydrogen technologies, systems, policy and cross-cutting issues.

2nd EUROSUNMED Symposium

EUROSUNMED organized a symposium on Advanced materials and technologies for renewable energies at the E-MRS Spring Meeting in Lille, France, on 5 May 2016. The aim of the symposium was to present the state-of-the-art and the future perspectives for materials applied to the generation and storage of renewable and sustainable energy. 16 oral presentations were followed by a poster session including approximately 30 posters. You can access the detailed programme and the presentations here.
